Before they became known as the “Red Tails,” the Tuskegee Airmen’s adventure began at Moton Field, where the Army Air Corps conducted a military test to determine if African Americans could be trained to fly combat aircraft. Working as pilots, mechanics, radio operators, medical personnel, clerks, navigators, cooks, dispatchers, and more, the men and women trained at Tuskegee fought racial prejudice. Stroll the grounds and explore the hangar museums that tell the stories of these brave citizens.
