From cross-country skiing to family-friendly tubing, the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area offers adventures for all ages in the Eastern Sierra region. Located five hours north of Los Angeles in Mammoth Lakes, the resort is home to 175 named skiing and snowboarding trails, gondola rides to the 11,053-foot summit, and guided snowmobile adventures through expansive meadows. With almost 1000 vertical metres of terrain - all of it above 2200 metres - and 28 lifts, Mammoth Mountain is aptly named; it's a massive ski area with something for everyone. The views are exceptional too, with the spectacular peaks of the Sierra Nevada all around.

Snowmobile adventures, tubing and cross country skiing await you on Mammoth Mountain. Cruise through tree-lined meadows on a guided snowmobile excursion or catch a lift to the top for Woolly's Tube Park and snow tube back down. You can click into some Nordic skis or snowshoes to get a workout exploring Lakes Basin on a cross country adventure. Whichever you choose to do, you’ll find plenty of snowy fun for everyone!

Hole in the Wall is a backcountry ski route that will challenge even advanced skiers, located in the out of bounds area at the back of Mammoth Mountain. It’s a geological rock formation created from cooled lava, which through a process of natural erosion formed a chute in the cliff. So where lava once flowed, now intrepid backcountry skiers shoot down a rocky tunnel.

If you aren't ready to ski Mammoth, head to Woolly’s Tube Park for a thrilling sled rides everyone will enjoy. For those 42” and smaller who aren’t yet tall enough to enjoy the ride, Woolly’s has a fun snow park area and heated deck serving up hot cocoa and adult beverages. Good to Know: Woolly's opens on Dec. 12 for the winter season.

Mammoth Lakes attracts visitors all year round, but the resort town really comes to life in winter, when skiers and snowboarders flock to its surrounding peaks. The town – once a sleepy mountain village – experienced something of a tourism boom in the early 2000s and there are now plenty of restaurants, chalet-style hotels and shops, all fringed by towering mountains and looming pine trees.
