Kiyomizu-dera, officially Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera, is an independent Buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto. The temple is part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto (Kyoto, Uji and Otsu Cities) UNESCO World Heritage site. It was one of 20 finalists for the New7Wonders of the World.

I would love to give this five stars but again, the crowds made it difficult to enjoy parts of this experience. It's a really beautiful place with a nice five story pagoda, and the main hall on stilt.

Without doubt, this is the number one Buddhist temple in Kyoto. If you visit only one during your visit to the city, make sure it's this one.

It's the most beautiful temple in Kyoto situated on a small mountain. It is famous for the viewing platform, three storey pagoda and spring water. Kiyomizu-dera is Kyoto's most popular tourist attrac.
