We're not saying that the fourth location of Mariscos El Submarino is better than the first. Respect your elders and all that. What we are saying is that opening in Clinton Hill—a neighborhood with very few Mexican options and seafood options, let alone Mexican seafood options—and adding a backyard into the mix was a very smart business decision. Drowning in under-the-sea creatures on a back patio where the music is always loud and party-ready doesn't compete with the experience of being at the original. It's an entirely different experience, just fueled by the same great aguachile. Speaking of which, if there isn't an aguachile on your table, we hope someone looks at you funny, because it’s frankly a requirement of coming here. But other than that, go crazy, and don’t overlook the cooked dishes, like some shrimp tacos oozing with cheese. The best way to order is to get so much that when it all finally arrives you can't see your table. Work through the mountain slowly and with mezcal, until all that's left is grilled shrimp shells and a few last sips of Pacifico.
