Fatbelly knows how to make a serious pretzel. They started in the Richland Park Farmer’s Market, but now have a full-fledged deli in East Nashville where you can eat many pretzel and pretzel-adjacent snacks. Prioritize the sandwiches that are so large you almost need a third hand to hold them, and come stuffed with things like roasted beef or pit ham. Everything is good and very worth stopping by when you need a snack, a full lunch, or just a dessert you’ll look forward to later. The pretzel bun muffaletta is the icon—a beacon of pork and spicy pickled vegetables stacked up to perfection. Get it hot so the cheese melts and accentuates the kick from the giardiniera. It’s also the kind of place that posts on Instagram about “pumpkin pretzel chess pies” and “black sesame pistachio rice crispy treats,” which have us getting in our car before we’ve even stopped scrolling. The high top tables are a solid place to post up for lunch, but everything is packaged to go, so you’ll be in good shape even if you have to eat elsewhere. Also, some of the nicest humans on the planet work here. Whoever is at the register becomes your own personal hype man when you order, so it’s impossible not to be 100% stoked about what you’re about to eat. But since the slogan of the place is “spread love like mustard,” this makes total sense.
