Long loved for its Northern-style phở, Turtle Tower had multiple locations at the height of its mini empire before its last one in SoMa closed in 2023. But those dark days are behind us. The Vietnamese restaurant reopened in the Financial District in 2025, and brought their famed chicken rice noodle soup with them. It’s just as good as it was before—the rich broth will trigger endorphin-dripping memories for those who’ve had it, and convert those who haven’t into weekly subscribers. The other noodle soups, like the phở tái and bún thang with chicken, pork, and chewy ribbons of egg are also fantastic. And though a couple of dishes miss the mark, this beloved restaurant's return still feels long overdue. The latest iteration of Turtle Tower rubs shoulders with fellow institutions Tadich Grill and Perbacco. The long, narrow dining room is dressed up with colorful murals and filled with comfy booths and plenty of bar seating. Vietnamese pop plays gently enough to hear your fellow slurpers and nothing else. While Tables turn over fast, going during prime lunch hours will require jostling with other FiDi office workers for a seat. Dinner any day of the week is walk-in friendly and usually a lot quieter than lunch. Either way, it’s worth making your way here, even if you’re not nostalgic for the food. And if you are, that’s all the better.
