This place holds probably the most different species of birds within Central Texas. It is both a wintering ground and a stopover for migrating birds. So every visit offers new species.

I was camping at McKinney Falls State Park near the airport so came up to this refuge to do some bird watching. You have to sign in at the gate, they ask for ID to record and then you are good to go.

As of February 2023, this place is open to the public. I'm an out-of-tower and consider myself the occasional birder. I have to say, Hornsby Bend is spectacular. You may have to go off-road for a coup
