Given how many Parisians flock to Menorca each summer, it’s shocking that it has taken this long for Casa Pregonda, a Balearic island restaurant named for the owners’ favorite beach, to open in the city. It’s not so shocking that it took us a minute to get there—it’s been packed for date nights, after-work drinks, and late-night friend hangs ever since it opened. The back dining room is a charming spot for a date or small group, though also the loudest part of the restaurant. Book a spot beneath the soaring ceiling with wood beams at the L-shaped bar in the front and watch the servers slice cecina and Bellota ham and shake up a few Spanish vermouth cocktails. Seafood lovers should go right for the ultra-fresh tuna crudo layered on ajo blanco and brightened by jalapenos and follow it up with carabineros prawns and spiced razor clams with Sobrasada-soaked breadcrumbs, but there’s also enough to keep vegetarians happy, particularly the three kinds of thick and creamy tortillas and a roasted eggplant à la catalane you’ll want the recipe for before heading out.
