Like a slice of pizza, a tamale is a near perfect snack, and knowing where the nearest option is at all times is not a want, but a need. In Crown Heights, there’s Tamaleria La Madrina, a tiny shop from the people behind nearby Taqueria Milear, that’s cranking out a tight menu of antojitos, taquitos, and tamales. There’s a chicken in green sauce, and one stuffed with jalapeños and cheese, but our absolute favorite is the Oaxaqueño, with pork ribs and red sauce. Get at least one of those, and make sure you snag some of their red and green salsa. The red is spicy, the green is tangy, and your tamales don’t necessarily even need them, but something in your fridge might.
