With an exterior lit only by a neon window sign reading “cocktails,” it’s easy to assume from the outside that Club Charles is your standard dive. Club Chuck as it’s known, however, is much more than that. It used to be a home away from home to the city’s artists, bartenders, and local misfits—it’s known to be a favorite of John Waters—with a menu of house cocktails (we’re fond of the Viola) alongside weekly drink specials, shooters, and cheap drafts. You could comfortably hang out in Club Chuck’s red neon and Art Deco furnishings all night, but, we recommend stopping by for a nightcap after dinner around the corner at Le Comptior Du Vin or when you get out of a movie at The Charles Theater (located across the way on, you guessed it, Charles Street).
