Bar Brucato is from the people behind Brucato Amaro, the local liqueur brand that’s gained a cult following for their Californian ingredients, like elderberries and yerba santa. But even if you have no idea what a digestif is, the airy second-floor Mission spot is the ideal place to bring a date you want to impress with amaro flights and pre-dinner snacks. Focus on the small, shareable plates. They’re the most consistent and memorable dishes off the seasonal, one-page menu—like Cheese Pennies (essentially grown-up Cheez-Its), or the puffy charred bread with a smear of cacio e pepe butter. Throw in a nicely balanced cocktail and you have one of the neighborhood’s best places for an appetizer or two before a full meal nearby (or an equally good nightcap). They also offer distillery tours on Sundays if you want to learn more about chaparral infusions.
