When Yume got rid of its takeout-friendly, Sugarfish-coded “Yume Box” born out of the pandemic, we wondered if this Valley sushi spot would sustain its popularity. How foolish we were for ever worrying. Of all the sushi spots that line Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, Yume is the one where it’s most necessary to make a reservation at dinner. Even on weekdays, a small crowd spills out onto the sidewalk by 5:30pm, with walk-ups often turned away. Why? The Yume formula is simple: excellent nigiri at around $10 for two pieces, straightforward rolls that don’t rely on spicy mayo, and a sleek space that makes even casual dinners feel like a cute little night out.
