The Gumbo Bros is a narrow sliver of a spot in the Gulch serving Cajun heavy hitters in what can best be described as a Bayou sports bar. Along with a bunch of LSU gear, there are all kinds of Louisiana ephemera and fun portraits of cultural icons from the Bayou State on the walls. And while Tigers and Saints game days get a little unwieldy here, it’s generally a low-key spot to hunker down at the bar for a solid bowl of gumbo. The pub grub classics with a Cajun twist are some of your best bets here. Like an especially piquant queso studded with crawfish and platters of wings doused in Crystal buffalo sauce. The gumbos are rich and spicy, while the po’ boys are served on bread flown in from New Orleans. Our order here is the aforementioned Baton Rouge queso, the Bayou Flight (which comes with gumbo, red beans and rice, and étouffée), and a couple of beers. If you’re running around the Gulch solo, this is a good place to post up at the bar. But it’s even more fun to grab a booth with a few friends for a casual lunch or dinner before or after hitting up the shops around the Gulch. If the weather’s nice, settle into a spot on the patio out front with a Hurricane and watch the tourists jockey for photo ops around the murals.
