Is it a bar? Is it a pizza place? Is it a bar where everybody’s eating pizza? Don’t worry about such trivial things. It’s Turbo Pizza Bar in Bushwick, and it’s very bar-like—think Christmas lights, big booths, and a pool table—but they also happen to make some very craveable Detroit-style pizza. There are other things on the menu, like caesar salad and chicken wings that are so breaded they’re more like chicken tenders, but if you’re eating here, you should eat pizza. The plain has an exemplary burnt cheese crust, but we also like the pepperoni with expertly singed cups, and the off-menu Triple Threat, with swirls of vodka sauce, red sauce, and pesto. There’s a pretty solid happy hour deal—a small cheese pizza and a beer-shot combo for $14—but it’s also open until 2am on the weekends, in case you need a nightcap consisting of a slice and a frosty house dirty martini, or the Turbo Cherry Coke with Coca-Cola and Disaronno.
