Penguin Island is a 12.5-hectare island off the coast near Perth, approximately 660 metres from Shoalwater. It was found to be home to a colony of 120 little penguins in 2024. Since 2007, the island has experienced a 92 percent decline in penguin numbers, from a peak of 1,600 that year. The waters surrounding the island make up the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park.
