The founders of the natural skincare brand Fresh were trailblazers in the “clean beauty” business. Their latest venture, a bohemian-chic boutique hotel in downtown Hudson, is a few hours away from their flagship shop in New York City, but the two have plenty in common: period charm, attention to detail, and, of course, first-rate bath products — the Maker features its own gender-inclusive fragrance. A trio of historic buildings is divided into eleven rooms, each one individually designed and outfitted with a mix of Art Deco and mid-century modern décor, and lit by unique vintage pieces from the owners’ collection. Those in the main Georgian mansion-style building have living areas with fireplaces, while Parisian-inspired loft rooms feature dormer windows and French doors leading onto private terraces. The artwork, you might notice, is of a rather higher caliber than typical hotel fare; the Maker’s proprietors are serious collectors. Other highlights include a sunny all-day café, an old carriage house converted into a sultry cocktail lounge, a glass conservatory turned into a greenery-filled Italian restaurant, a cozy library open exclusively to guests, and, perhaps most unexpected of all, an outdoor swimming pool.
