Newmarket railway station serves the town of Newmarket. All trains serving it are operated by Abellio owned Greater Anglia. Following the sale of the station building for offices by Network Rail in 2011, plans were underway to build a new station building following complaints from local residents. Some improvements were made in 2016. The first railway station in Newmarket opened in 1848 as the terminus of the Newmarket and Chesterford Railway.
