When searching for burritos in SF, it’s easy to just stick to the Mission—the neighborhood’s concentration of taquerias is about as high as the number of strollers in Noe Valley. But just across Market in Duboce Triangle is El Castillito, a low-key spot serving salty-fatty super burritos that rival any of the more famous counterparts in town. While this spot does other taqueria staples like tacos and enchiladas, you’re here for the burritos. As you wait for your order, watch as al pastor is shaved off the spit and crisped up until bubbly and charred on the plancha, then swaddled in a tortilla draped with a layer of melted cheese. There are tables if you want to dig in immediately, but we like to take our haul to nearby Duboce Park and have a picnic while watching dogs run in circles.
