The first Manhattan location of this Uzbek grocery store loses nothing in translation. It's still just as busy and overwhelming, and it’s still home to a robust hot bar that makes the increased heart rate worth it. Your game plan is as follows: first, go to the fridge inside the entrance to the left and grab a container of the housemade Korean carrot salad. (Sweet and sesame oil-forward, like a vegetal spaghetti.) Then find the hot bar and stock up on spiced beef manti, pickled cabbage, smoked fish, and as many golden-brown fried foods as you can possibly rationalize bringing home with you—think Georgian-style khachapuri, cigar-like sigara, and lamb samsa. Once you think you’ve done enough damage, go for just one more thing. Sushi salad, anyone? (If you’re pro-mayonnaise, go for it.)
