This East Village tiki bar is committed to the theme…and the scream. Make a reservation and ring a bell to be let in, then walk through a jungle of fake plants before entering a long room with an eerily lit bar and dark little corners. It’s like a spring break horror movie in here, with an alligator hide, palm fronds, and lots of bamboo. But somehow Paradise Lost avoids total tackiness, even when the voodoo rock is briefly replaced by werewolf howls and lightning flashes as a Bottomless Pit cocktail comes smoking to your table. Drinks are $20-$25, but they’re punchy and complex—try a Chaos Magick and order some popcorn. There’s also a cool rum list, shareable cocktails, and ti’ punch service.
