Hidden inside of an Exxon gas station convenience store, Russ Fam Kitchen offers so much more than bags of stale chips and candy bars. Instead, the menu at this Daly City takeout counter spans Filipino classics like lumpia and dinakdakan as well as sushi bakes and birria tacos. Our favorite is the lechon kawali—the slabs of crispy pork belly could set off nearby car alarms with every bite. It also comes with a vinegar sauce and a sweet soy-based sauce (a house take on the Mang Tomas condiment) that offsets the pork’s richness. And a visit is incomplete without an overflowing cup of Dubai chocolate strawberries. This place runs a tight takeout operation with no indoor seating, but if the few steps to your car are testing your patience, there are a few picnic tables right outside that are usually free.
