Despite the name, Thai food is not the go-to order here. Instead, this unfussy strip mall joint specializes in cuisine from China’s Shaanxi province, namely, dumplings, noodles, and soups. Those loud bangs coming from the kitchen are the sound of fresh, hand-stretched biang biang noodles being slapped on the counter before they hit a pot of hot water. Topped with thin strips of beef, chopped cilantro and sharp black vinegar, these long noodles should be on every table. Thick, housemade noodles also star in the aptly named Bigguy Stretch Noodle Soup, a hearty bowl topped with roast pork in a not-too-spicy miso broth. Don’t miss the tender pork sandwich on a housemade bun, a great example of Shaanxi street food. It’s a killer deal at $6 and a better sandwich than you’d find at most pit barbecue joints.
