Despite its name, Bonsai Coffee is very much a matcha spot. During the day, the counter hands out green drinks like a dive bar on St. Patrick’s Day. And it’s one of our favorite spots for matcha in the city, with fun flavor options like pistachio matcha, pandan-coconut, and mango. The cozy space is usually packed with laptops and people working on their thesis drafts. But at night, it transforms. The lights get dimmer, Tyga plays on the speakers, and the tables fill with boozy, dessert-esque cocktails made with soju and sake. The lavender-colored Moonlit Taro is as sweet as a melted milkshake, while the Strawberry Hi-Chew tastes exactly like the gummy candy it’s named after. And because Bonsai never passes up a chance to put matcha in something, there’s a Matcha-Tini. It comes with a thick cap of matcha-infused sea-salt cream and has such a strong tea flavor that the caffeine might have you scrolling in bed until sunrise.
