Moreno Barbecue has a full-service home base in Southpark Meadows, where they cook up all the Texas barbecue staples—brisket, pulled pork, sausage, and the like. And a few miles up the road is Moreno Burger Co., a smaller operation that focuses on one food in particular. If you can’t guess what that is, you might have bigger problems in your future. The burger has long been our favorite thing on Moreno Barbecue’s menu, and this dedicated spot gives it the attention it deserves. Like its sister restaurant, the space is unremarkable—bare walls, a digital menu, and some merch in a dim corner—but you’re not here for an extended hangout. (If you are, grab one of the picnic tables outside.) You can choose between smoked or smashed patties, plus regular or curly fries, and a few other dishes like brisket chili, wings, and pulled pork cheesesteaks. The griddled crust on the smashburger makes it one of the best in town, but the ability to fully customize your toppings is dangerous—overload at your own peril. Keep things simple and you’ll leave happy.
