Austin Street Pizza is a reliable Forest Hills stand-by with fast, friendly service, and an enigmatic neon sign that asks “Love Or Pizza.” (We’re still not sure how to answer that.) Though they also make New York-style pies, the signature thick, crunchy square slices are the thing to get here. Our favorite part is the caramelization of the bottom crust—in general, the dough runs more crunchy than springy, almost like a slab of heavily toasted focaccia. You can get it topped with porchetta broccoli rabe, truffle cream sauce, and upside-down vodka, with gluten-free and vegan options also available. There are about a dozen seats inside the restaurant, which has big, sunny windows along two of its walls. But in case you’re in a rush, it’s worth noting that Austin Street Pizza is conveniently located within just a couple blocks of both the subway and the LIRR.
