Ollin has been around since 1997, but this Mexican restaurant in East Harlem has found newfound fame on TikTok in the past few years, introducing the world to the family behind the business. Several generations of family members can often be seen online and IRL putting up colorful papel picado, flower garlands, and holiday decorations in the tiny room like it’s an extension of their own house. Others are busy in the back, deep frying huge, queso Oaxaca-filled chili rellenos, or stacking Puebla-style cemitas milanesa with perfect precision. Come hungry with one or two other people—these are close quarters—and look out for special events like drag brunches and Dia De Los Muertos parties.
