Figuring out which Koreatown KBBQ spot you are would have been a great BuzzFeed personality quiz back in the day. If you ended up with Woo Hyang Woo as your answer, it likely means you’re the type who likes to show off. The lantern lighting, smokeless grills, and thick slabs of beef fanned out on wooden boards at this fancier-than-average Korean barbecue spot on 6th Street make it a good option for impressing others, whether it’s your boss or family members who always want to go to steakhouses. The usual cuts of galbi and pork belly at Woo Hyang Woo are decent, but the main reason to come here is for the signature tomahawks, which are brought to the table on sizzling skillets and carved tableside from oversized bones that would fit in at the Natural History Museum. The whole tomahawk presentation ceremony is theatrical (think the KBBQ equivalent of a Benihana onion volcano), but it’s also what helps Woo Hyang Woo stand out from the dozens of other similar options in the neighborhood.
