Cooklyn has a few locations around Brooklyn, and their New Lots shop is a pretty good spot for soul food in a pinch, though you’ll have to do takeout as they don’t have any seats. A meal here will set you back around $20-$25, but the portions are big, and everything is cooked to order. Your choice of mains includes fried chicken, oxtails, lamb chops, and fried shrimp, which we especially like dunked in a zippy lemon pepper sauce. Between a bowl or a platter, we'd get the platter because it comes with an additional side—and choosing between sides is something we wouldn’t wish upon our worst enemy. The mac and cheese should be one of them: it's properly gooey and seasoned with cracks of fresh black pepper.
