Hindu Temple Society of North America, representing Sri Maha Vallabha Ganapati Devasthanam, at 45–57 Bowne Street, Flushing, Queens, in New York City, was the very first of the traditional Hindu temples in the USA. The designation of North America in the name was chosen because at its inception, there were no other Hindu temples in North America from which it needed to distinguish itself. It is popularly referred to as the Ganesh Temple, Flushing since the main deity is Lord Ganesh.
