Mua is the perfect entry point into Oakland for anyone who wants to explore what lies beyond the Bay Bridge, but doesn’t know exactly where to go. It’s great for group dinners because the converted industrial warehouse setting, huge wooden tables, and a DJ booth on the top floor give off a rowdier vibe. Navigating the very long, slightly all over the place but broadly ‘American’ menu might need a spreadsheet and an arbitration session, but that’s only because everything looks great and everyone at the table will have competing interests. Luckily the menu delivers (just get the duck confit and the burger if the group can’t get it together) and the food is easy to share over some really good cocktails.
