Toum’s burgundy dining room is exactly where we’d like to stage a soft re-entry to Instagram after a six-month posting hiatus. Think: a fresh blow-dry, skinny chip in hand, mid not-so-candid laugh at something your friend just said. The room has perfect date night lighting and just enough background buzz to make things fun. By 7pm, it’s full of couples pretending not to eavesdrop on friend groups loudly splitting a whole rotisserie chicken, and passersby glancing in through the big windows and wishing they too were scooping silky-smooth hummus. You’ll stay too long, order too much, and leave with very strong garlic breath—and that’s the whole point. The Lebanese menu has less of the usual grilled meats and more of a modern twist, with some stand-outs. The hummus is thick. The meat-filled samboussek is crispy. The chicken milanese is so golden and juicy it steals some of the limelight from the rotisserie. And if the BBQ beef short rib shawarma is on, make sure it’s on your table—it’s saucy, meaty, and a great sharing dish. Some things—like the musakhan rolls—could be punchier, but the namesake toum makes everything better.
