If you’re looking for a laid-back meal in an atmosphere interior designers might call “farmhouse chic,” you have two good options within a five-mile radius in North Fulton County: Milton’s Cuisine and Cocktails, and Roswell’s Table & Main. They’re both in refurbished farmhouses and have similar Southern menus—but Milton’s is larger, so it’s easier to get a table here, especially if you have a big group. There are multiple wood-paneled rooms to choose from, all of which tend to be full of big families trading shrimp fritters and couples relaxing over wine and goat-cheese-stuffed fried green tomatoes. A few of the rooms here even have fireplaces that roar to life in winter months and set the tone for a cozy meal. There isn’t a bad season to visit Milton’s, though, since they use locally-sourced ingredients that often come straight from their own garden. The Southern-leaning menu churns out more hits than So So Def, and it’s especially good if you need to please a bunch of people who all like different things. For meat eaters there’s a buttery filet mignon or a short rib pot roast topped with a horseradish apple slaw we’re still trying to recreate in our own kitchens. Fish lovers should order the blackened salmon swimming in creamy pimento cheese grits that practically shout, “You’re in the South!” Overall, there's a comfort factor to everything on the menu that makes you feel like you could be eating at home—except that most of us can't make a gouda mac and cheese this good. Between the crowd-pleasing menu and generous space that always has room for walk-ins, Milton’s is the ideal spot for a last-minute date night or nice family outing.
