On Knightsbridge’s busiest street, The Mantl is a welcome respite. Obviously there’s overspill from shoppers looking for a bite to eat but on weeknights, you can pretty much always get a last-minute table at the Turkish spot. Inside it’s relaxed and unpretentious, where prams are squeezed in and families gather over mixed grills and manti. Casual dates sink into the comfortable booths, scooping pulled lamb-topped hummus with warm za’atar-dusted bread. It’s easy to spend a couple of hours nibbling on mezze, digging into the grilled meats, and sipping on strong Turkish tea—especially if the thought of heading back onto the tourist-ridden Brompton Road makes you want to cry.
