About

Not only is Mexico City one of the cultural capitals of the Western Hemisphere, it’s long been a showcase for inventive homegrown boutique hotels. And a fine example of both of these tendencies is Colima 71 Art Community Hotel, a 16-room boutique hotel in Roma Norte, in a building designed by the celebrated local architect Alberto Kalach, featuring interior design by the local studios Nomah and Karla Celerio Interiorismo. Its name is a statement of intent. Colima 71 is full of art, not only in the rooms but in the public spaces as well, which feature latticework by Sofía Taboas, photographs by Iñaki Bonilla, and a sculpture by Darío Escobar. And it seeks to foster community as well, providing communal spaces like its courtyard and library — versatile spaces for working or socializing, with the added privacy of “working booths” for when you need quiet. The rooms, of course, are a private refuge, and are conceived as studios — some with terraces, others with balconies overlooking the neighborhood. The daily breakfast features pastries from the highly regarded Rosetta Bakery, and there’s a coffee bar and an honesty bar for guests’ use — as well as a Street Food Concierge, to help you find the finest under-the-radar local flavors.
