Homegrown Bagels has been Sonoma’s carb-loading institution for over 40 years, and it shows. The space is small and unfussy, and most importantly, the bagels are the NY-style platonic ideal—chewy, with a crisp, bubbly exterior. You can’t go wrong with a classic everything or a savory onion bialy with cream cheese, but they also have outstanding bagel sandwiches, like the lox special with the usual tomato, red onion, and capers, and the grilled chicken, bacon, and provolone wonder that is the Petaluma Melt Down. Come early since there is usually a line, and they sell out fast.
