SRV, or the Serene Republic of Venice, is a South End small plates spot with an exclusively Italian wine list, plates of pasta made with locally-milled flour, and a level of impeccable service that you might have heard doesn’t exist anymore. If you take a straw out of your cocktail, for example, the food runner may notice and play telephone with the bartender so that your next round appears straw-free, without a mention. The food and drink offerings riff on baraci, the casual drink-and-snack bars you might pop into after work in Venice, but the vibe is extremely upscale South End neighborhood hangout. You’re meeting your boyfriend at the bar for a cichetti (loose translation: drinky-snacks) date night. You’re catching up with girlfriends over spritzes and mussels swimming in a Calabrian chili-spiked white wine bath. You are saying “yes, please!” to more of the grilled bread, even though your rational brain says you should save room for the strozzapreti, in a rich pork sausage cauliflower ragu, drizzled with bright caper salsa verde. The heart wants what it wants, and for hospitality and gorgeous Italian food, it wants SRV.
