It feels a little backwards to lead with pierogies before mentioning that this Port Richmond institution has been around since Katharine Hepburn was in her first films. But the chewy, crescent shaped dumplings are hard not to lead with. The Polish, family-run lifer—complete with its own brick smokehouse—has been churning out pierogi, kielbasa, smoky meats, and punchy pickled toppings since 1938. The homey, cash-only takeout spot is a master of comforting fare, in classic potato, cheese, and onion-pierogi form.
