Atelier, one of the best places for a "should I take my shoes off?" atmosphere and tweezered bites, is back in a larger Lincoln Square space with two menus—one tasting, one a la carte. Both make Atelier’s return even more exciting. The front bar is living room casual (complete with a giant rug), with snacks like a caviar potato pavé that's a fun bacon and eggs situation, patty melts with pepper jam, and boozy fernet cocktails. The tasting menu, served in the Midwestern basement-esque back dining room, is just as cheeky. The bread course arrives smeared with ajo verde like a painter's palette, and foie gras on parmesan focaccia might be our new favorite Detroit-style slice in town. As with the old location, Atelier is still perfect for big, splurgy celebrations. But now you can get the same surprising dishes, without committing to a fixed rate.
