The Calgary Alberta Temple is the 140th temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and the third build in Alberta. The first, previously known as the Alberta Temple, was built in Cardston in 1923. The Edmonton Alberta Temple opened in 1999. LDS Church president Thomas S. Monson announced the construction of the Calgary Alberta Temple on 4 October 2008, during the church's 178th Semiannual General Conference.
