It all began in March 1954, when local teachers pooled funds to charter Baton Rouge Teachers FCU, aiming to support each other with low-cost loans and personalized service. Over a decade later, the first office opened on South Foster Drive, with one full-time and two part-time employees. Since then, the credit union renamed itself Neighbors FCU, grown to over 80,000 members, and amassed more than $1 billion in assets.
