From the street, Tortilleria Mexicana in Oakland Park looks like a grocery store. And a third of it is, but most of the space functions as a big Mexican restaurant, with enough long tables and spacious booths to accommodate a huge family (and their plus ones). This menu covers more ground than most of South Florida’s Mexican spots, so there are decisions to make: Breakfast or lunch? Tacos or burritos? Pozole or mole? If we can offer any guiding advice, it’s to add tripe to whatever you order. It’s incredible here, simultaneously crunchy and fatty. Have it wrapped in a burrito, sprinkled on top of the gloriously cheesy alambres, or in a taco. Not a tripe person? Luckily, everything coming out of the kitchen is great, especially if it involves their fresh tortillas. Generous portions should ensure that you leave with a takeout box (and a stack of tortillas to eat it with).
