Historically situated within Lancashire, it is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. In this building the Bridgewater Canal was planned and its construction supervised.

Excellent meal and service,all food delicious and correct portion size We were in a rush to pay as we had ordered taxis,completely our fault but we didn't notice that we had been charged for 10 extra
My wife and myself had an excellent meal on December 19th 2025.the staff were both polite and cheerful The food was cooked to perfection all credit to the kitchen staff..
The Appleby’s Cheshire cheese, onion and potato pie is still the best around and a real treat whenever we go.Thank you for a great lunch.
