You might be tempted to order takeout from Bamboo Fire, a Caribbean restaurant that specializes in Guyanese dishes. But sit inside. The entire team is one nuclear family, and the hands that cook your food will be the same ones that deliver it (and then gently make fun of you for eating oxtails with a fork and knife instead of your hands). Comfort food is a term that gets thrown around a lot these days, but what’s most comfortable about Bamboo Fire is not just the perfectly tender jerk meatballs, balanced fish curry in banana leaf, or the surprisingly refreshing side salad with mangos that comes with that oxtail—it’s the sense that you can and should take the time to enjoy your meal. Our server even sat down with us while we ate and shared a few stories in between explaining our food. In a world of rehearsed serve food spiels, Bamboo Fire leads with personality and the (well-earned) confidence that their food is excellent.
