Lisbonata does pastéis de nata, and pastéis de nata only—and they really don’t need to do anything else. At the Crown Heights bakery, the egg tarts are bigger and gooier than their Portugal-based counterparts, and they have crackly, buttery shells that are filled with a smooth custard in a large kitchen with big windows next to the takeout counter. The original pastel is best, with singed patches on top and a perfectly browned bottom. But there are six different flavors worth exploring too: yuzu, belgian chocolate, salted caramel, raspberry with a dollop of fresh, seedy jam, and pistachio cream that tastes like baklava. Get a box of four ($16 each), and be the most popular person at your Prospect Park picnic. That hat you just bought that says “custard connoisseur" or “flaky friends forever” will be a hit too.
