Located in a basement in Marylebone that feels like the kind of place Charli XCX would have an afterparty, Italian spot Nina is undeniably cool. We’d hazard a guess that 90% of the people in this room lower the brightness all the way down when taking a photo, and 100% of them will include the bluefin tuna e melone in their next photo dump with the caption ‘tuna + melon, iykyk’. At lunch, it’s a calmer, more sophisticated affair that’s perfect for a long, day-off situation, or a fun catch-up with that friend who hardly ever comes out anymore. It’s buzzy without being noisy, and exciting without being gimmicky. In the evening, things liven up. The lights are dimmed, the music is more upbeat, and every single table is packed with romantic dates or friends posing next to tiny tinis. It’s basically a casting call: tousled hair, low-rise denim, and Fendi baguettes (vintage, of course) fill the room. We’d come day or night to Nina for the electric energy alone and the servers who you’ll be on a first-name basis with by dessert, but the food is equally impressive—when you order correctly. Raw yellowtail floating on a creamy stracciatella boat, and rich taleggio truffle arancini start your meal on a cheesy high. And mains, like a huge, crispy chicken milanese smothered with parmesan butter, hit the spot. Just know that we’ve found the food can be inconsistent and there are some dishes we’d skip (fritto misto, prawn carpaccio, gnocchetti), but order right and it’s one of the most fun dinner spots in London.
