The Maya Angelou Northeast Branch of the Wichita Public Library was formally dedicated on December 20, 1996. Maya Angelou (1928-2014) was in attendance. Angelou was an author, poet, professor, civil rights activist, playwright, actress, director, and producer. After an expansion and remodeling project, Angelou reopened in 2025 with a new sun room, a study room, and a modernized interior.
