Niku X is an upscale Japanese yakiniku spot in DTLA with a bunch of wagyu steaks that servers grill at your table. It’s smack in the middle of the Financial District on the second floor of the Wilshire Grand Center, making it the kind of refined spot where you’d celebrate an anniversary or host a bunch of multinational investors (as one does). There’s a full a la carte menu, but most people choose the $230 yakiniku tasting menu, involving eleven courses of things like caviar-topped wagyu tartare, seared A5 striploin, and dry-aged sashimi. Will a meal for two cost over $500 here? Easily. Does the food, space, and service back up that price? Yes. Especially if you’re into the dramatic spectacle of platters overflowing with smoke clouds, tableside flambés, and lots of glamorous plating.
