Ezell’s is a Seattle institution, and their original location in the Central District makes some of our favorite fried chicken in town. Picking up a pound of spicy tenders or a drumstick and thigh combo with a pillowy roll on the side never fails to make us a bit nostalgic—it’s one of our go-tos whenever we land at SeaTac and want something to remind us of how good it feels to be back home (even though the I-5 traffic on the way from the airport might suggest otherwise). You might have to weave through hungry teenagers, as Ezell’s is across from Garfield High School, but the chicken is worth dealing with shrieking prepubescent folks. Especially the spicy tenders—they’re consistently crackly-crunchy, and taste perfect dunked in barbecue sauce. Stop in for a quick lunch or dinner, and make sure to grab a container of gooey peach cobbler for dessert.
