CLOSED SUNDAYS FROM MEMORIAL DAY TO LABOR DAY. The Lionel D. Alford Branch of the Wichita Public Library first opened on April 5, 2003. It was dedicated in memory of Lionel D. Alford (1925-2000), a retired senior vice president at Boeing who is credited for starting the Kansas Food Bank and known as an advocate for Wichita Public Schools. After being remodeled in 2025, Alford now has a wide variety of meeting spaces, from single-person study rooms to a large community meeting room.
