Technically on the outskirts of Little Italy, this Italian-ish cafe and wine bar is an emerald green pocket of Commercial Drive that defies both geography and time. It’s a spot where you go to grab an afternoon coffee or a weekday lunch and end up staying into aperitivo hour for some wine and cicchetti (the arancini are calling—don’t ignore them), followed by piattini and more vino. The burrata filled, lemon-butter-drenched mezzaluna confirms that the daily fresh pasta is the obvious choice here, where it’s for lunch or dinner. Note that La Tana is also a tiny space that can fill up quickly, especially on the weekends. But the entrance of adjoining restaurant Pepino’s serves as a holding pen where you can sip on a proper Italian-inspired cocktail or local pilsner at the standing bar while you wait for space to open up next door.
